ABOUT ME
Hi ! I'm Lara Penney, I am the artist behind PenneyPaints on socials. I am a contemporary visual Artist originally from Darwin, Northern Territory and currently residing in the Pilbara region in Western Australia. I share an interest in floral, plantae, seascape and landscape themes with my works exploring various mediums including acrylic, gouache, chalk pastels and watercolour which are chosen intuitively, based on the distinctive features of the subject.
Growing up in the Northern Territory, I have always been inspired by the rich landscapes and surrounding native flora and plantae in which my works capture in a tranquil and complementary tone. My passion for art is deeply intertwined with my love of travel and exploration. As I journey through life, I strive to bring my art with me wherever I go, capturing the essence of nature and the unique beauty found across our remarkable lands.

Awards/Exhibitions
I have been a part of youth arts exhibitions and projects in Darwin, including the 2024 Darwin Fringe Festival ‘Secret Art’ Exhibition, located at Darwin Visual Arts (DVA) and participated in the 2024 Mental Wellness Colouring Book Project, developed by LAUNCH Darwin. That same year I also exhibited my piece, ‘Nightcliff Mangroves’, in the NT Art Awards at Darwin Visual Arts (DVA) along-side many artists across the Northern Territory. In 2025, I was accepted into the NXT Gen Arts program with Tactile Arts Darwin and later shared my experience at the Meeting of Arts Professionals in Novermber 2025. That year, I also co-exhibited my work with Arlya Tuckey in the 'Kaliedoscope' exhibition at Darwin Visual Arts Gallery and my work 'Gwen Draper' was also awarded the ‘Young Artist Award’ for the 2025 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Awards.
